Day 3 - The regattas have begun.

Desenzano del Garda, 6 June 2024 – Desenzano del Garda – A weak north wind allowed the completion of the program for Day 1 of the 2024 Desenzano FISU World University Championship Sailing, an event organized by Fraglia Vela Desenzano in collaboration with FISU, the international federation of college sports.

The sixteen competing teams, made up of around ninety sailors and representing the fourteen nations registered, divided into two fleets made up of eight Dolphin 81s identical in performance and all equipped with new sails, completed three races which promoted them to the top of the Canada rankings 2 (1-1-1). Alec Coleman’s team, apparently capable of performing more effectively than all their opponents, scored three firsts and was trailed by just one point from Ange Delerce’s France (1-2-1) and six from pair formed by Australia (2-5-2) by Samuel King and Italia 1 by Alessandro Archetti (4-2-3). Alfonso Palumbo’s Italia 2 (4-4-2) completes the top five.

The event will resume tomorrow with three more tests for both groups. The event program includes a maximum of nine qualifying races, at the end of which the Gold and Silver Fleet will be determined. Each team will access the final series on Sunday by reporting the placement obtained in the first phase in the box corresponding to Race 1. A maximum of three races will therefore be held which, added to Race 1, will give rise to the final ranking.
